What's Going On
Travis Wesley Trio featured at Remy's Jazz Club Every Thursday Night In February, 2010. Travis' trio was once again Featured at Remy's jazz club throughout the month of February, 2010. St. Louis bassist, Ben Wheeler played on every show along with drummer Jeff Magby. Ben and Travis are close friends having played togethr in Willie Akin's quartet in St. Louis 2003-2005. Ben has been featured on Travis' recordings "Sections," and "Standard Interpretations." In addition to being one of St. Louis' first call bassists performing with Willie Akins, Paul Demarinus, Ptah Williams and countless others, Ben teaches jazz studies as a member of the adjunct faculty at Webster College, Washington University and St. Louis Community College.
Travis Wesley Trio Debut @ Remy's Jazz Club in Springfield, IL (225 E. Monroe Springfield, IL) The Travis Wesley Trio had their debut at Remy's in Springfield, IL on Friday, January 15th and Saturday, January 16th, 2010. Drummer, Tom Marko and bassist, Andy Crawford were featured along with Travis throughout the weekend and currently fairly regular figures in Travis' Trio who works throughout the Midwest. Friends, family and jazz supporters from all over Central Illinois showed up, making it a memorable event. Along with being an active performer with jazz artists throughout the region, Tom Marko also directs the jazz curriculm at Illinois State University. Andy Crawford is also one of the first call bassists in Central Illinois for various jazz artists. He also teaches applied bass at Knox College.
Travis Wesley Featured with Chicago Vocalist, Margaret Murphy Valentine's Day Weekend, 2010 Exclusively at Remy's on Monroe.
Travis was featured with Chicago based vocalist, Margaret Murphy on Friday, February 12th and Saturday, February 13th. The ensemble also featured an outstanding Chicago based bassist, Chuck Webb and Bloomington, IL based drummer, Tom Marko. The quartet performed before a sold out house both nights. Ms. Murphy has opened for nationally acclaimed jazz artists such as Joe Sample and Chick Corea. She has also performed for Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. Ringing in the New Year with jazz vocalist, Frieda Lee On New Year's Eve Travis was featured with Frieda Lee, a remarkable jazz vocalist from Chicago, IL. Frieda has performed at various venues throughout the country both as a soloist and as a sideman with numerous outfits regionally and nationally. She is most recently recognized as the featured vocalist with the Chicago Jazz Orchestra in Chicago, IL. It was a very special evening at Remy's on Monroe in Springfield, IL. Frieda drew a great crowd, and the setting was very intimate. From the moment she began singing, Frieda captivated her listeners, singing selected songs from her regular repertoire with the support of Travis Wesley on piano, Bill Schipf on bass and Mark McNight on drums. New Trio Release: June, 2009
Travis recently completed a small trio recording project that was release in June of 2009. The project features several tracks from recent recording sessions held in March and April of 2009. The set of recordings features several regional artists such as bassist, Tim Brickner, drummer Cory Flanigan, St. Louis bassist, Ben Wheeler, and St. Louis Drummer, Steve Tatum. Travis is featured on his new, Fender Rhodes electric piano throughout the entire album. The project also features a live track with the Travis Wesley Trio from a show at Swinger's Grille in Bloomington, IL. Some of the tracks are temporarily available to listen to for free on this website. Just click on the "jukebox" to listen. Selected tracks from Travis' recording "Standard Interpretations" were featured on the program Jazz Spaces, a Macedonian radio show hosted by Vasja Ivonovsky. Standard Interpretations was released in February of 2008 and features St. Louis Bassist, Ben Wheeler and Travis Wesley on piano.
